Truman Lake is known as the largest man-made lake in the state of Missouri. When construction was first started in 1954, its original intention was for flood control although today it provides a host of outdoor recreation opportunities for visitors, particularly boaters.
The Army Corp of Engineers leases marina rights on a limited basis and there are currently five marinas placed around Truman Lake and all of them offer convenient amenities to make boaters’ visits truly remarkable.
Bucksaw Resort and Marina is the only full service resort and marina on the lake with a 40 room lodge, six lake view cabins, kitchenettes that are located on the water, 100 full hook-up RV sites, and sleeping rooms. A floating restaurant makes this resort extra special and serves home cooked meals with fresh, local ingredients.
Bucksaw Marina is conveniently located at the 25 mile marker on the South Grand River side of the lake. Basic sleeping rooms are above the marina, perfect for tired boaters who only need someplace to sleep before hitting the water again the next day. Boaters can rent a slip by the night or seasonally if they have plans to be on the lake the majority of the summer. Gas and oil are easily accessible and a marina store with tackle, licenses, and bait are located right on the marina. Beer, cold drinks, and snacks are also sold there; it just isn’t a day on the water without a cold one! Fish cleaning facilities keep the fish guts off the boat and a marine mechanic is always on call for those emergency break downs.
Long Shoal Marina
Long Shoal Marina touts itself as “the Most Accommodating Marina on Truman Lake”. The marina is located on the south side of the lake with thick forests and rocky bluffs jutting out into the water. A service center has highly trained mechanics on duty that can work on Evinrude, Johnson, Nissan, and Tohatsu boats as well as having a full selection of OMC parts on site. The service center is conveniently open seven days a week from 8am to 4:30pm.
Slip rentals vary: boaters can rent overnight and choose from a covered slip with electric or an uncovered slip. Jet ski owners aren’t left out of the fun as there is also a slip rental for jet skis (uncovered).
The Long Shoal Marina Restaurant is open seven days a week for hungry lake-goers, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Saturday and Sunday host an all you can eat breakfast buffet while Friday nights have an all you can eat seafood buffet.
Osage Bluff Marina
Family owned and operated for 31 years, the Osage Bluff Marina and offers food, lodging, and great marina amenities. Devoted customers call Osage Bluff “the fisherman’s headquarters” as it’s known for hosting events like the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society while the onsite tackle store provides tackle perfect for the fishing conditions on Lake Truman.
Covered slips on the water are very convenient for boaters who don’t want to load their boat in and out of the water during their stay. These can be rented by the day, week, month, or even annually. Slips vary in size, ranging from small fishing boat sized to enormous house boat sizes. Two boat ramps ensure boaters get their boats in the water quickly and without having to wait in line, while on site oil and gas make fill-ups quick and convenient.
The Osage Bluff Marina Restaurant sits on a floating dock and opens early in the summer months to get boaters out in the water as early as possible.
Truman State Park Marina
Just five miles west of Warsaw, Truman State Park Marina is fully equipped with a live bait and tackle shop, convenience store items including cold drinks and snacks, and Truman Lake souvenirs. For those who don’t own a boat, the marina offers boat rentals (pontoon and fishing boats) for hourly or daily rates. A handy fish cleaning station keeps boats clean and makes the mess easier to clean up.
The marina is close by Swim Beach, where the best swimming on Truman Lake is located. There are also public boat ramps free of charge for those who don’t need slips and just need a quick and convenient place to launch their boat. And since the marina is part of the state park, camping is located just a short distance away from the marina, making it easy to depart the boat at the end of the day and head to a cozy campsite to relax by a fire as the sounds of the lake wash over the area.
Sterett Creek Marina
The Sterett Creek Marina and Motel are located only three miles north of Warsaw. The northeast shore of Truman Lake is still mostly undeveloped with thick stands of trees and unbeatable views of the lake.
The motel has 40 rooms at affordable prices, some of which are equipped with kitchenettes. Guests who are planning on an extended stay can book their rooms with weekly rates. For those who prefer to rough it, the onsite campground is just feet away from the lake’s shore. Tent sites are plentiful and there are also RV campsites with 30 amp hookups. Each RV campsite has a picnic table and campfire ring. If guests come in a large group (perfect for family reunions), a group campsite is available with fantastic views of the water. A bathhouse, laundry facilities, and dump site are located centrally for campers.
The marina’s launch ramp is open to the public year round with a daily use fee of only $3.00 or an annual pass for just $30.00. A fuel docking station, bait and tackle, a fish cleaning station, freezer storage, and a convenience store make it easy to get all of those pre-launch necessities out of the way and out on the water.
Truman Lake is truly a boating paradise, made complete with five easily accessible and affordable marinas that are sure to meet every fishing and boating need out there. The hardest part is picking which marina to launch from!
Truman Lake Water Levels
Truman Lake has a normal water level of 706 feet above sea level. Since Truman is a flood control reservoir the lake level can fluctuate greatly.
The Army Corp of Engineers updates current water temperature and level on their site. For up-to-date Truman Lake water levels please visit their site here.
Truman Lake Water Temperature
Truman Lake water temperature averages between 50-60 degrees in the Springtime. Summer temps will be roughly between 80-90 degrees and Fall water temperatures will fall to 60-65 degrees.
How Deep is Truman Lake?
The average depth of Truman is around 20 feet deep. However, as mentioned before, Truman Lake is a flood control lake and helps maintain the level of The Lake of the Ozarks, so the water depth can vary greatly all year long.
The deepest part of the lake is at the pool in front of the dam itself. The maximum depth at the dam is 80 feet deep.
Truman Lake Dam Discharge
The discharge at the Harry S. Truman Dam will vary depending on the need for hydroelectric power and maintaining the lake water level. The discharge will effect fishing more below the dam on the Lake of the Ozarks. The dam has 4 large gates that can be individually operated to manage the water discharge.
Truman Lake offers a wide range of activities throughout the year. This site is currently under construction but will be updated often with yearly activities happening on and around Truman Lake.
We will offer updated links to current fishing reports and water levels on Truman. Also, information on camping, resorts, and cabins will be featured on the site.
Also, we will have a comprahensive history of the lake from the native people who inhabited these lands to the construction of the dam and the filling of the Harry S. Truman Dam and Resevoir.
Thanks for stopping by and check back often.
